100% of the race proceeds benefit Hosparus patients and families

Hosparus, a non-profit hospice care provider, created this fun, night-time 5k for every member of the family to enjoy.   So come as you are!  Our event is all about people of different speeds, ages, shapes, and sizes.  Get funky with the energized music and electrify yourself with our glow avenues.  Wear your favorite costume when you come out to support our wonderful mission!

Why are there five race locations?

Hosparus supports patients and families in 33 counties surrounding our five race locations.  We want everyone to experience this wild and crazy glow in the dark party!   To learn more about Hosparus, visit  www.hosparus.org.

Each location will have it’s own unique LUNAR EXPO where sponsors and vendors will be able to showcase their business, products, and services. Please contact Karin if you are interested in joining the expo at karin@lunar5k.com

After you finish the 5k…YOU will make YOUR way into the LUNAR GLOW, which is going to be the best part! Make sure that you grab your friends and family and dance the night away to today’s hits (maybe some good oldies too) with the best lazer and light show around! You won’t want to miss this as we finish getting our GLOW on!

For more than 35 years, Hosparus has been the region’s leading hospice care provider, serving nearly 6,000 patients per year. We do this for a very simple reason – to help people with compassion and care at this important milestone in life.

How will Hosparus use the money raised at the LUNAR 5k?

100% of your registration fee will support Hosparus care for patients and families, regardless of their ability to pay.  In addition, funds raised will benefit Hosparus’ pediatric patients, our Kourageous Kids, and the Grief Counseling Center. Hosparus provides bereavement care to Hosparus families at no charge for 13 months after the death.  We also provide Grief Relief Workshops at no charge to children in the schools.

Hospice is comprehensive care by a team of experts that allows patients and their families to focus on living as fully as possible.  Last year, 1.4 million dying Americans were served by hospice providers across the nation, yet there are many myths about hospice. Please read on to understand more about the myths of hospice care.

Myth:  Hospice is where you go when there is nothing more a doctor can do.
Fact:  Hospice is not a place but a philosophy of care providing medical, emotional, and spiritual care focusing on comfort and quality.

Myth:  Hospice is only for the last days of life.
Fact:   Hospice patients and families can receive care for six months or longer, depending on the course of the illness.  Hospice care is most beneficial when there is sufficient time to manage symptoms and establish a trusting relationship.

Myth:  Choosing hospice means giving up all medical treatment.
Fact:   The reality is that hospice places the patient and family at the center of the care-planning process and provides high-quality pain management and symptom control.

Myth: Hospice is just for the elderly.
Fact: Hospice serves anyone facing a life-limiting illness, regardless of age.

Myth: Families are not able to care for people with terminal illnesses.
Fact: Hospice involves families and offers professional support and training to help them care for their loved ones.

Myth: Hospice care starts when someone is close to dying and ends at death.
Fact: The focus of hospice and palliative care starts at the time of diagnosis or acute phase of the terminal illness and extends beyond the patient’s death to the family during bereavement.  Hosparus Grief  Counseling Center is open to anyone in the community whether their loss is a hospice death or not.
